DURBAN - The body of a man who had been shot several times was discovered by a passer-by in the area of Osindisweni in Verulam.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram, the body was discovered along Oakford Road in Osindisweni on Sunday afternoon.
“The discovery was made by a female who was known to the deceased. She informed his family of the discovery and contacted Rusa at 17:33.”
Balram added that the Rusa team found the man, who is estimated to be in his twenties, in overgrown vegetation next to the road.
He said the man had sustained gunshot wounds to his head, left arm and chest.
“He showed no signs of life and was pronounced deceased by the medics,” added Balram.
He added that two spent 9mm cartridges were recovered about 10m from the the body.
Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala confirmed the incident.
“We can confirm that an incident took place on April 3 at 18:45 at Osindisweni Main Road in Verulam, where a 22-year-old was fatally shot by unknown people,” said Gwala.
She added that a case of murder was opened at Verulam police station for investigation.
