DURBAN - THE body of a man believed to be in his forties was discovered in his home in Redcliffe on Monday after residents reported a foul smell coming from the house.

Reaction Unit SA (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram said residents from Summit Drive – Area 2 in Redcliffe called for assistance just after 10.30am and reported the smell of a decomposing body.

Balram said Rusa officers and paramedics were forced to break the door to the home to gain entry.

“Upon arrival officers/medics entered the home and found a man lying on his bed in an advanced stage of decomposition,” he said.

The officers interviewed the neighbours who informed them that the man who is approximately 40 years old was last seen two weeks ago.

“They [the neighbours] decided not to report him missing, believing that he had left with his vehicle,” said Balram.

Balram added that officers checked the garage and the dead man’s blue Toyota Corolla was not located.

He said no further details of the vehicle were made available.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala confirmed the incident.

“We can confirm the incident however police are still busy at the scene,” said Gwala.
