But Cape Flats actress Anne Juries-May, who plays Claudia Cupido in the popular soapie Arendsvlei, is actually a 27-year-old woman.
Claudia, a Grade 11 student at Arendsvlei High, is the daughter of Janice and Thys Cupido, and family is the most important thing to her.
Like her grandmother Gertie, Claudia is always trying to “fix” situations, but often causes more drama with her meddling.
Ann, from Eerste River, has a degree in Theatre and Performance from the University of Cape Town and graduated on the UCT Deans merit list.
The book smart actress tied the knot two months ago, and says Arendsvlei has made her famous.
“Some people stop me in the mall and talk to me as if I’m a real high school learner,” she jokes.
“I’m so grateful to be a part of this telenovella, because it’s breaking boundaries.
“People’s responses have indicated that it is starting conversations about social issues and the coloured community feels represented,” she says.
She adds: “I hope young coloured and black girls will feel accurately represented when they turn on the TV or go to theatre, and that they see their stories and ‘future selves’ in the characters and actors.”
When she’s not working, Anne and her hubby enjoy hiking and nature.
“I spend a lot of time at the beach, even in the winter; it’s my go-to place when I’m in need of some perspective.”
Show is on Monday to Wednesday, 8pm on kykNET & kie.
