15-year-old in court over SANDF soldier's kidnapping, murder

Cape Town - The case against a 15-year-old charged with kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstance and murder of the South Africa National Defence Force (SANDF) soldier Staff Sergeant Michael Njomane has been postponed till Thursday morning.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said the case was postponed for the accused "to be added to other accused".

Two men were arrested for Njomane's murder of which one, Theodore Loggenberg, 43, has already appeared in Blue Downs Magistrate Court on charges of kidnapping, hijacking and murder, on Thursday of which his case was postponed.

Ntabazalila said both accused will appear at the Bluedowns Magistrates Court.

Njomane's body was found in the boot of a burned-out vehicle along Silversands Road on Sunday, August 18. 

The gruesome discovery was made after the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services from Mfuleni and Kuils River stations were called to the scene to put out a fire.

The soldier's identity was positively confirmed on Tuesday.

The SANDF said it was saddened by the death of the soldier. It said after consultation with the family, a memorial service would take place on Thursday at Liberty Building in Madiba Street, Pretoria.

The funeral service for the soldier will be held at Ngquthura village in Ngcobo near Dutywa in the Eastern Cape on Saturday.
