Cape Town - GrandWest Casino is helping teachers mentally and physically equip themselves to train the future minds of South Africa by hosting an educators’ workshop for 50 teachers from West End Primary School who educate a total of 1 718 learners.

This will be the second workshop. The first was attended by teachers from Mitchell’s Plain High School, with the goal of assisting and finding solutions to the physical and mental challenges that educators face in today’s Covid-19 climate.

GrandWest general manager Mervyn Naidoo said that teachers are having a difficult time adjusting to the added responsibilities and pressures of teaching during the reality of Covid-19 and need support as well.

“Educators play a vital role but with the added stress of the global pandemic, they now have an even more demanding job and are having to be an even stronger emotional support system to their learners.”

The Covid-19 has affected educators, both physically and emotionally.

“Amid all the heartache, uncertainty and personal stress, teachers are still having to give and be their best for their learners, who look up to them. With the start of the first term, GrandWest endeavours to support programmes that aim to avoid burnout and improve and boost the emotional well-being for our educators.”
