Cape Town - Six Mitchells Plain schools are each R10 000 richer after they were named the winners in an annual competition by Liberty Promenade.

The winning schools are:

  • Eastville Primary.
  • Eisleben Road Primary
  • Portland Primary
  • Searidge Park Primary
  • Spine Road High
  • West End Primary

Schools that entered the competition were asked to submit a short video clip highlighting their particular needs and detail how they would make use of the R10 000 prize money, should they win.

Despite the challenges they experienced last year the pupils and teachers displayed such enthusiasm and resilience in each entry video.

“We are extremely proud of the role that we, as a mall, are playing within the Mitchells Plain community. All of the participating and winning schools have dire functional and facility needs, which require urgent addressing. In handing over these cheques, we hope to also encourage other corporates and individuals to assess where they could get involved, and further contribute to uplifting the local community,” Liberty Promenade general manager Brenda Bibby said.

The winning schools received their cheques on Thursday.

They will spend the money on sound equipment, classroom repairs, projectors, library books and sports equipment among other.

In addition to the R10 000 prize money for each school, Liberty Promenade also gave R4 000 each in gift cards, to the individuals who assisted the schools in compiling their videos.
