Two injured, four arrested in Bellville taxi rank shooting

Cape Town - Two bystanders were injured in a shooting that took place at Bellville taxi rank on Friday morning, where SAPS also arrested four men on the scene.

SAPS spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut confirmed that a case of attempted murder is being investigated following the incident which occurred at around 10:45. 

"It is alleged that shots were exchanged between two groups of people, and in the process two males 28-years-old and 33-years-old, who were bystanders, were shot and wounded. 

"Police members who were deployed to the area noticed a group of male persons standing in Voortrekker Road Bellville, and upon approaching the group, one male person produced a firearm. He was shot and wounded by police. The group made an attempt to flee, but four of the five men were arrested in possession of an unlicensed firearm."

Traut added that men arrested will make a court appearance in Bellville on Tuesday.
