Watching the final political showdown between Ace Magashule and Cyril Ramaphosa one is reminded of an old Western movie when two gunslingers faced off amidst whispers that the town wasn’t big enough for both of them.

When guns were drawn only one man was left standing. So it shall be between Ramaphosa and Magashula.

A suggestion by political analyst Bheki Mngomezulu that the only way to unite the ANC is to scrap all suspensions defies logic and flies in the face of reality.

The “old” ANC which embraced an ANC uber alles mentality over the good of the country as a whole is dead and buried.

Uniting an “old” ANC is pie in the sky and the notion is absurd. What will emerge from the ashes of a now defunct “old” ANC will be a renewed vision of a future devoid of corruption, nepotism, cronyism, state capture, political war mongering and private fiefdoms.

There comes a time in life be it a marriage gone wrong, an ailing friendship or a failing business, to hang up your gloves and call it a day.

This is where Ace Magashule stands right now. He is up the creek without a paddle and any further challenges to the NEC will simply speed up his political demise. Realistically he is a relic from the past and adds no value to new ANC political thinking.
