South African pace bowler Allan Donald has been given permission by the United Cricket Board of South Africa to take up a short-term contract with English county Worcestershire from June 4 to June 16.

"Allan contacted me this morning and he also wrote to me today to ask if he could play for Worcestershire while their overseas professional, Andy Bichel, is playing in Australia," said UCB CEO Gerald Majola Wednesday.

According to South African player contracts, players may not play cricket for another employer without first getting the permission of the UCB. Each request is treated on its merits.

"National physiotherapist Craig Smith has assured me Allan is fit to play and that, provided Allan sticks to his fitness programme, it would be unlikely to harm him to play county cricket for a few weeks.

"Allan has assured us that he has been following his fitness regime. On the basis of that information, I agreed Allan could take up the short-term county contract," Majola added.
