Five-times Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour winner Willie Engelbrecht is recovering after being hit by a truck while riding his mountain bike.
Engelbrecht had been showing a route in the Contermanskloof area, in the north of the metro, to former world mountainbiking champion Mike Kluge when the incident occurred on Wednesday.
"We were doing a fast descent, on a farm road, when the driver came round a blind corner," Engelbrecht said on Thursday.
"I have several fractured ribs but I'm okay - it could have been worse."
