After a positive start to the Absa Premiership, Maritzburg United will go into their first home clash of the season against Kaizer Chiefs next weekend with a strengthened goalkeeping department.

The club yesterday confirmed the recruitment of former Namibia national team goalkeeper coach Immanuel Gottlieb.

The club also received the registration card of their new American goalkeeper, Hunter Gilstrap, this week after his international clearance documents were processed by the league. Gilstrap, formerly with lower-division US side Cleveland City Stars, missed the first match, a credible 1-1 draw away to Ajax Cape Town last week. Instead, Namibian international goalkeeper Athiel Mbaha, also a new signing, made his debut, while Tashreeq Goldman sat on the bench.

Among the outfield players, defender Omar Hendricks has joined Gauteng First Division team FC AK, after Maritzburg opted not to exercise an option to retain him for an additional season.

The match against Chiefs on Sunday September 14 is set to be played at Durban's Absa Stadium. However, the club said a final decision between that venue and the Chatsworth Stadium had yet to be taken.
