Hollywood actor Matt Damon is to take part in the the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour at the weekend.

Damon is here to shoot the new Clint Eastwood movie about the Springboks' Rugby World Cup win in 1995, based on the book by John Carlin.

So far, it has the working title of The Human Factor.

He will play Francois Pienaar, who led the Boks to their historic victory.

In a radio interview on Wednesday morning, Damon said he had been inspired by Pienaar.

Pienaar is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with fellow Bok Hennie le Roux and a few friends, and plans to descend in time to cycle the Tour on Sunday - all to raise funds for the charity Make a Difference (MAD).

Damon said he had been inspired to sign up for Sunday's race alongside Pienaar.

"I think I've got a little bit of 'mad' in me too!" confessed the movie star.

Damon's cycling fitness is not known, but according to reports, he has been on a rigorous physical programme to get in shape to portray a Springbok rugby star.
