Niemach no longer a nobody

Kenny "Niemand" has suddenly become Kenny Niemach again.

After years of being a peripheral, nomadic figure on the South African football circuit, one header has put him back in the spotlight.

Of course, if you're going to score, doing it in the Soweto derby on debut for Kaizer Chiefs is a pretty good way to make your mark.

Niemach was, of course, with Sundowns when they won their three successive league titles, but it's the goals of Rapahel Chukwu and Daniel Mudau that are remembered rather than those of Niemach's.

He's got the silverware to boast a pretty decent career, but he's always been a hardworking striker, rather than a deadly one, and probably hasn't scored as many goals as he should have in his time.

He's never really justified it on the field, but somehow Niemach has always had a bit of a film star quality about him, though.

But now, he's back on the sports pages and back on everybody's lips.

Doing a television interview after the derby over the weekend, the dark shades were on for the cameras when the sunlight was long gone and chants of "Kenny, Kenny, Kenny" were ringing out.

Niemach got the goal, so for now he deserves his moment in the sun.
