Mexico - Top-seeded Italian Flavia Pennetta overcame a leg injury to win her second tournament in as many weeks with a 3-6 7-5 6-3 victory over Slovakia's Ludmila Cervanova in the Mexican Open final on Sunday.

The beaten finalist last year, Pennetta appeared to be in control after breaking Cervanova for a 3-2 lead in the first set, before she called on the trainer to work on her injured leg.

The unseeded Slovakian was able to capitalise on the Italian's lack of mobility on the clay surface to reel off the next four games and take the opening set.

"I started a little bit nervous because she was playing well and I had the problem with my leg which made me more nervous," Pennetta said.

"Before I had a problem with my right leg and today it was my left, but it's the final and you have to think more about playing than pain."

World number 30 Pennetta regained her composure to trade breaks at the start of the second set and raised her level of play in the 12th game to capture Cervanova's serve and send the final into a decider.

The 23-year-old Italian appeared to gain in strength and confidence as the match progressed, forcing Cervanova back to the baseline with her strong forehand before making the decisive break of serve in the sixth game of the set for a 4-2 lead.

Pennetta held firm to close out the match in a little over two hours to follow up last week's victory in Colombia.

"In the end, she was more tired than I was," Pennetta added.

"From 4-2, I thought I was going to win because her head appeared to drop a little."
