Sait aims to make his comeback game count

Kamaal Sait makes his return to the Santos starting line-up on Sunday afternoon.

Santos take on Sundowns at Green Point in a repeat of last week's BP Top 8 cup final.

The Cape side won that match in Rustenburg 2-0 - and they have no doubt they can pull off another win against the top Pretoria club.

Sait, now 30, played amateur football for Matroosfontein and started his professional career as a raw, scrawny 16 year-old with Santos in the now-defunct Federation Professional League (FPL).

From there Sait, equally adept in midfield or defence, developed into one of the local game's top utility players. He won the league and cup double with Cape Town Spurs in 1995 and has played for Bush Bucks, AmaZulu and Orlando Pirates.

He had a brief spell in China last season, but when the offer came to come back to Santos he ditched his plans of signing a contract with the Chinese.

Sait was, however, unfortunate in his very first game back in Santos colours in August this year when he was red-carded for a second bookable offence in the Top 8 quarterfinal match against Black Leopards in Venda.

But he is a player accustomed to adversity; in fact he thrives on it. Always he has come back stronger.

And when the likeable footballer takes his place in the Santos starting line-up on Sunday, expect nothing less than his best.

Full commitment is what Sait is known for - and he aims to make Sundowns remember that.

Like many of his team-mates, Sait, too, is getting on in years, but as this Santos squad has shown: age is but a number, it's what's left in the tank that is so much more important.
