Ria Stars were unlucky not to garner maximum points when they were held to a goalless draw by Santos in a Premier Soccer League match played at the Greenpoint stadium on Friday night.

Santos were the better side in the first half but Stars came back stronlgy and only excellent goalkeeping by Andre Arendse saw the home side draw their fourth match in a row.

Santos' new signing Bradley August, from Lyngby in Denmark, made no impact to the home sides' attack and he was replaced by Thokozani Xaba in the 61st minute.

Siphiwe Mkhonza, Sam Pam and Athenatious Methope were outsatnind in the Stars defence and used their height effectively.

In the 16th minute Santos' Thando Mngomeni moved smartly down the left, cut in, beat two defenders, but his shot from five metres hit the side-netting.

In the 39th minute a kick upfield caught the hosts' defence flat-footed and arendse came oyut of his box to head away from Stars striker Donovan Wilson.

Two minutes later Lucky lekgwati broke through but his shot was brilliantly saved by Arendse.

The highlights of the second period centred around the superb Stars defence, marshalled brilliantly by Arendse.

For the hosts central defender John Mbidzo had a good game. - Sapa
