Manchester, England - England defender Wes Brown confirmed on Tuesday he would open talks with English champions Manchester United next month over a new contract.

"I'm hoping to start contract talks soon, in the next month, and am confident of everything going smoothly," he told the Manchester Evening News.

"I've been playing football at the club since I was 13. It was always my dream to play for United and it still is. Playing for any other team, no matter who it is, would be an anti-climax for me."

Brown will follow Jaap Stam, Andy Cole and Ryan Giggs in committing himself to United despite uncertainty over the replacement for Alex Ferguson when he retires at the end of the season.

"Even if Ruud (van Nistelrooy) remains the only signing we make, I still think we can win the Champions League," Brown said. - Reuters
